Why double clutching and no granny shifting?

Why double clutching and not granny shifting?

BECAUSE RACE CAR

“You almost had me? You never had me. You never even had your car. Granny shifting not double clutching like you should.” – Dom Toretto, The Fast and the Furious

PS Dom - Double-clutching is primarily used by road racers that need to match their transmission speed to the engine speed while downshifting through turns. Drag racing is in a straight line, and you shouldn’t be double clutching or downshifting in the first place, as there are no turns involved. So technically, you’re both idiots.

I think you have double-clutching confused with revmatching.

Double clutching is used by truck drivers because most semi-truck manual transmisisons don’t have synchronizers. They double clutch so that the pressure plate completely disengages to disconnect the engine from the trans in which lets them shift gears.

The purpose of Double Clutching in a semi is to match the engine to the trans , the sequence goes as follows Clutch In-Neutral-Clutch Out-Clutch In-Next Gear-Clutch Out , when performing a downshift you must also revmatch the engine otherwise you will not be able to complete the shift , on the upshift you just let off the throttle to allow the engine to slow to trans speed , and remember , good drivers do this all in a half a second

Double clutching also lets the revs drop making upshifts smoother on the driveline. Mainly stop and go driving not racing.

  3. tyler says:

in a drag race you should be powershifting though it would burn your clutch some it still would be the quickest method

  4. RKA says:

4 words, NO LIFT TO SHIFT, rev-matching and double-clutching obsolete and unnecessary

  5. Daftendirekte says:

What if I told you, Dom was secretly referring to a DSG, which is superior to standard manual, and therefore is completely correct?
